Lesson Summary: By the end of this lesson, students should be able to understand how to graph hyperbolas given an equation and how to find the equation of hyperbolas given some information. One should know that there are two types of hyperbolas: vertical and horizontal which is determined by whether the equation is x^2-y^2 (horizontal) or y^2-x^2 (vertical). One should know that a is always located in the minuend position. c is the distance from the center to the foci (located inside of the hyperbola). a is the distance from the center to the vertices, and b is the distance from the center to the conjugate axis. Furthermore, two asymptotes run through the center of the hyperbola. In addition, it is important to note that the length of a and b do not matter.
